Description
Belonging to the family Channichthyidae, which comprises 33 species of crocodile icefishes, the green icefish is endemic to the Kerguelen Islands. It is named after Mithridates VI, the last king of Pontus (modern-day Turkey). True to their name, green icefishes inhabit the icy waters of the Antarctic; their blood also resembles ice, as it is almost transparent in colour.
