Yesterday, Amy was excited to see this model of the Douglas C-47A Skytrain – one of the most important aircraft of the Second World War. This variant, the ‘Fassberg Flyer’, played a significant role during the Berlin Airlift of 1948/49. From the airfield in Faßberg, Lower Saxony, West Berliners were mainly supplied with coal, including by this plane, which the crew had named the ‘Fassberg Flyer’. A copy of the original can be admired today at the Airlift Museum in Faßberg. Read more here.
