Description
In 1956, the French aircraft manufacturer Dassault scored a great hit: the Mirage was allowed to make its maiden flight. Its further development took place at lightning speed in the truest sense of the word, as just a few years later it was the first European aeroplane to reach a speed of more than Mach 2.
Several variants of the fighter plane were built and also successfully exported. The variant presented here is a Mirage IIIO, manufactured under licence from the Australian Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation in a batch of 114 planes.
The successful French model was powered by a SNECMA Atar 09C turbojet engine with afterburner, which was in development at the same time as the Mirage IIIA test aircraft.
