Description
The Datsun 240Z, also called the Nissan Fairlady in its native country, was not the first Japanese sports car. Nevertheless, with almost 500,000 exported copies of the Z and ZX, it was the most successful vehicle from the Land of the Rising Sun at the beginning of the 1970s.
The two-seater combi coupé was equipped for export with a 2.4-litre engine and 151 hp. The sporty racer could not be obtained in Germany until 1973 and was sold for 17,500 Deutschmarks precisely 303 times.
In that same year, Nissan presented the 240Z’s successor at the Tokyo Motor Show: the 260Z. Due to increasingly stricter emission regulations in the US market, the engine capacity was increased from 2.4 to 2.6 litres. Two years later, a further adjustment to the engine capacity was made with the 280Z, though only for the American market.
