Description
Between 1964 and 1968, the American car manufacturer Ford built a race car that succeeded in bumping Ferrari off the Le Mans throne. Starting in 1966, the Ford GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four years in a row. Ferrari could boast that they had held the previous winning streak for six years.
Totally unexpectedly, Ford introduced a new super racer in 2015: the GT Le Mans. Commentators sneered at the operation, but Ford hadn’t lost their touch. They sent four chassis into the 2016 race and finished in first, second, fourth and ninth place in the LM GTE Pro class.
In the early 60s, Henry Ford II, the founder’s grandson, had badly wanted to buy Ferrari (that is, before all the victories). He didn’t get to experience the recent triumph, however, as he died in 1987.
