Description
With its eight blazing machine guns and thundering Merlin engine the Spitfire was a symbol of hope and victory for the Allies and panic and defeat for the Axis. Even in modern times the Spitfire enthrals both aviation enthusiasts and the casual onlooker alike.
From its inception in the 1930s to its finest hour; the Battle of Britain and beyond, the Spitfire was adored by those who flew it. Today there are less than 60 in airworthy condition.
