This single-engine jump jet was the world’s first operational V/STOL (vertical/short take-off and landing) strike fighter. The Sea Harrier gained fame for its role in the Falklands War, where Argentinian pilots christened it ‘La Muerte Negra’ or ‘Black Death’. Second-generation Harriers were also deployed in the Bosnian War (1992–1995) and later in Iraq and Afghanistan.
