The first operational squadron of this multi-role aircraft with a delta wing configuration was formed in 1984 and first deployed in the Gulf War. The lightweight fighter jet became the backbone of the French Air Force. It took part in UN/NATO missions in the Bosnian War and the Kosovo War, and was later used in Afghanistan and Syria.
