While its predecessor, the MiG-15, had seen action in the Korean War, the MiG-17 was specifically designed as an interceptor to shoot down American bombers. Though also employed during the Cold War, this high-subsonic fighter aircraft found particular success against FJ-4s during the Vietnam War.
