African elephant – kit from LEGO® bricks

Description

The African elephant is the largest living land animal at present. From top to toe, he can measure up to seven and a half metres long; the tail adds another one to one and a half metres. A full-grown bull has a shoulder height of almost four metres and a weight of up to six tonnes.

The way of life of an African elephant is well researched. He is a decidedly social being that develops bonds with family members and other groups. He sleeps little and mostly while standing but wanders extensively and feeds exclusively on soft and tough plants.

He is illegally hunted for his tusks, though his large ears and long trunk are equally distinctive. The trunk is a truly multipurpose body part. Not only is it used for food intake but also for communication and play.
