Kermode bear – kit from LEGO® bricks

Description

The Kermode bear, also called the spirit bear, is neither an albino nor a polar bear, but actually a black bear. He owes his white or cream-coloured fur to a recessive gene mutation, which must be carried by both parents.

Kermode bears live like other bears: hunting salmon and nibbling on trees. According to observations, they appear to be more docile than normal black bears. They are only found in the temperate rainforests of the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The precise living conditions of this rare species of bear have not yet been studied, but their concentrated presence in one location perhaps has something to do with the spiritual stance of the First Nations people who still reside there. The Tsimshian once declared Kermode bears to be sacred. They did not hunt them and did not utter a word about them to strangers. Poachers and furriers did not even know that they existed at all.
