Walrus – kit from LEGO® bricks

Description

The walrus is at home in the icy waters of the Arctic, where he cuts a finer figure than on land. Nevertheless, the large species of seal is anything but slow and defenceless in an emergency. Due to their very flexible fins, the animals weighing up to 1,200 kilograms make good headway, even on solid ground.

Both males and females are blessed with useful accessories of canines up to one metre long. Even hungry polar bears have respect for these tusks. In addition, they can be used to create breathing holes or for heaving themselves more easily onto the shore. During turf wars, demonstrative displays are often enough to scare off less well-endowed rivals.

The tusks are actually a disadvantage only in terms of their attractiveness to non-native hunters who have run out of maritime ivory, though poaching fortunately does not currently pose a threat to the species.
