Description
This pretty bird from the Cotingidae family, also known as tunki (in Quechua), is – as the name suggests – at home high up in the Andes Mountains in South America. He is the national bird of Peru.
The male’s bright orangey-red colouring is very striking, and with a body length of 35 to 38 centimetres, he is not so small. Still, he is a master at hiding from humans.
The best chance of discovering an Andean cock-of-the-rock, if you like climbing high up in the Andes, is during the mating season in spring. Then, the males meet in groups in a lek, show off their feathers in a dance and call out loudly to the females.
Number of original LEGO® bricks: 163
Measurements of the model: 13 x 6.4 x 21 cm
Difficulty level: intermediate
