Description
This small, lively songbird is as handsome as he is common. Weighing barely ten grams when fully grown, he can be found almost all over Europe. Whether in gardens, parks or mixed woodlands, he feels at home everywhere.
The eye-catching pipsqueak has a lot of enemies, though. Birds of prey, cats and martens see him as a little snack between meals. But they have to catch him first: the blue tit can compete with the sparrowhawk, flying at up to 35 km/h.
Such a blue tit is not only fast but also extremely adaptable. While he likes to devour small insects, larvae and spiders alongside seeds in the summer, he turns vegan during the winter – until the frost melts.
